History of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's history is a source of pride for both Sinhalese and Tamils, these are the country's two largest groups. These people give the island the name by which  it has been known throughout most of history: Sinhaladwipa, meaning, ' island of the Sinhalese', Which becomes Ceylon in English.  The name of the country's name has now been changed to Sri Lanka which stands for 'beautiful island.
